DESCRIPTION

transverse RANGES (tR) is a web publication about geoscientists presented in long form, interview-format articles about individual geoscientists in a variety of geoscience disciplines. tR explores internal and external influences that shape the individual's path to the field, and in the process, reveals the power and importance of culture.

Fourteen interviews were conducted, of which 10 were published. The site remains as a permanent archive and is actively accessed as a learning resource and inspiration for aspiring students from the following institutions and websites:

ORIGIN & DEVELOPMENT

transverse RANGES (tR) was originally developed as a tablet magazine app in 2010. The initial scope was magazine-style articles about geologists, a 3D touch-rotational crystal/mineral/rock platform, geologic mapping photo-essays, and mini-documentaries (i.e. ALBACORE). After months of framework coding, tablet app efforts were paused, and the scope reimagined as a web-based publication to broaden access and delve quicker into content development. Several unpublished interviews were conducted with a focus on future trajectories in the field; but, ultimately, the interviews refocused on individual origins and path to the field, as these stories proved to be more fruitful, inspiring, and timeless.
