ALBACORE is an unrealized documentary about two scientific research cruises in the North Pacific, committed to deploying/retrieving 32 ocean-bottom seismometers up to 400km (248 miles) off the coast of southern California. Documentary elements include over 30 hours of video that comprise 14 interviews with the principal investigators, student assistants, seismometer technicians, and selected ship crew. The aim of the documentary was to investigate the psychological and emotional experience of being part of a collective scientific endeavor at sea. The documentary was named after the scientific research project title: Asthenospheric and Lithospheric Broadband Architecture from the California Offshore Region Experiment (A.L.B.A.C.O.R.E.).
